For him, his pride is to be a fisherman and he always wanted to make a bigger catch. That is why he was always chasing for tuna and bigger fishes and not squids or shrimps for example.

He wanted to show his skills in his place which was a small village. His catch was supposed to show to others and to him his ability and skills.
