To the medieval theologians, a big concern is if a child:

died before baptism

Theologians are those people who study about or are scholars of religion.

They believed that children who died before receiving baptism should be entrusted to God’s compassion. What the teachings say about the everyone being saved gave them hope that infants who died before baptism still has a chance of being saved and brought to everlasting happiness.
