A sentence has an active voice if the subject is performing the verb.
The dog bit the courier.
The car hit the wall.
She is eating.
(And conversely, the passive voice has the verb doing something to the subject.
The dog was bitten.
The car was destroyed.
A pizza is being eaten.)
