After all that Sykes has done, she feels no pity for him.

    Explanation:

From the book, "Sweat", Delia suffered years of abuse from Sykes. His several misdemeanors, his hatred of her, and his misuse of her money all build up to why she let him die.

Delia finally has enough when Sykes gets a snake and keeps in the House, despite Delia's many objections. She begs him to take the snake out, but he refuses, her hatred for him grows. She finally confess to him during dinner that she changed her church membership so she would not stay near him and confesses that she hates him.

Delia's confession makes Sykes to leave the house and she decides she can do without him so when she finds out the snake isn't in the laundry basket, she is quite happy to let it kill him when he returns.
