Which sentence provides supporting evidence for this statement?

By studying human genes, scientists hope to further their understanding of human evolution and of the genetic roots of diseases.

Scientists currently believe that humans have approximately 30,000 genes, far fewer than scientists initially estimated.

Each gene has a specific code of base cells responsible for telling the body how it will look, how it will digest food or battle infection, and sometimes even how it will act.

Already, scientists have been able to isolate the genes that are responsible for cystic fibrosis, Huntington's disease, and other diseases.

Located in the nucleus of every human cell, of which there are trillions, the genome is made up of tightly wound threads of DNA

I would say that the sentence which provides supporting evidence for that statement is the second one - Each gene has a specific code of base cells responsible for telling the body how it will look, how it will digest food or battle infection, and sometimes even how it will act.

It is the only sentence which talks both about the evolution and mentions diseases.
