How does the moon change in the course of the story embers of the moonlight

    In "Embers of Moonlight", the moon changes from being a shining, ivory figure, to a shimmering pile of dust (embers). This happens, because she fades throughout the story as a part of the rebirth process. She must die in order to be reborn, and for her, "dying" means fading into dust.
