Which statement describes the relationship between seafloor spreading and continental drift? As the seafloor spreads, the continents do not move. As the continents move, they pull the seafloor with them. As the continents move, they create new seafloor at the coast. As the seafloor spreads, the continents move in the same direction.

As the seafloor spreads, the continents move in the same direction

    Explanation:

The seafloor spreading is one of the biggest proofs of the continental drift theory. The seafloor spreading occurs at divergent boundaries. At these boundaries, the tectonic plates move away from each other. This happens because of the intense geologic activity from the upper mantle bellow those places, so a crack is created. Magma is propelled through the crack, and the magma pushes away the seafloor away from the boundary.

This creates motion of the tectonic plates, and that motion's direction is dictated by the direction of spreading of the seafloor. If the seafloor is spreading toward east and west, then the plates will be moving toward east and west respectively.

That will cause the other sides of the plates to hit and collide with other plates, creating convergent boundaries, subduction zones, or transform boundaries.
