    Explanation:

    Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004 or Christmas or Boxing Day tsunami, began as a result of an undersea earthquake at the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra.

    It is known as The Sumatra-Andaman earthquake with a magnitude of 9.1 resulting in a major Tsunami responsible for immense destruction and loss of life at the rim of Indian Ocean.

    The tsunami killed at least 225,000 people across 900-mile stretch in Southeast Asia. Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Maldives were worst affected by it. It was reported to be one of the most disastrous calamity in modern world with immense loss of life and property.
