Mount Fuji is the tallest mountain in Japan rising to 3,776 m (12,338 ft) near the Pacific Ocean coast. It is the countries sacred symbol. Temples and shrines are located on the mountain. It is a volcano that hasn't erupted since 1707, but geologists still classify it as active. It is said the first ascent was made by a monk in 663

Mount Fuji started forming about 11,00 to 8,000 years ago.
