    The statement is true.

The tundra is an area of our planet which is occupying the space in close proximity to the poles, mostly to the North Pole. The majority of the tundra is around the North Pole, and this is due to the land area that surrounds it, and it is occupying very little area around the south pole, only on few islands that are in close proximity to the Antarctic. The tundra is characterized with very long winters that are very cold and dry, and very short fresh summers. The animals and plants that live here are highly specialized, and the diversity is very small.
