Immigrants from blank are the ancestors of about half of Suriname current population

Immigrants, or rather former slaves, from Sub-Saharan Africa are the ancestors of almost half of the population in Suriname. They were brought with the slave ships by the European colonizers and the purpose they were brought here is because a work force for the sugar plantations was needed.
