I can't answer for GPI but I can answer for HDI. HDI differs from GDP as it takes into account other dimensions of human development such as the healthcare and education and income as compared to GDP which only takes in account the economic aspect of income. GDP is a single indicator whereas HDI is a composite indicator. GDP more often that not views human as a means to an end which is overall growth and development of a country whereas HDI views humans as a the end, ultimately benefitting from the development thus wellbeing of humans reflects the state of development in the country
