The chart below indicates the levels of three aquifers in a local community. Level of Input and Output in Three Aquifers Aquifer

Aquifer 1 Input: 360 gallons Output: 600 gallons

Aquifer 2 Input: 521 gallons Output: 500 gallons

Aquifer 3 Input: 200 gallons Output: 300 gallons

Which best describes the aquifers?

A) Aquifers 1 and 3 may result in a reduced river flow.

B) Aquifer 2 may result in reduced surface water levels.

C) Aquifers 2 and 3 may result in decreased wetland and spring discharge.

D) Aquifer 3 may result in an increase in productivity.

    A) Aquifers 1 ans 3 may result in a reduced river flow

    Explanation:

From the information provided about the input and output of the three aquifers, we can see in what kind of situation they are and what can be the result of it. Aquifer 1 has an input of 360 gallons, and output of 600 gallons, thus it losses 240 gallons of water. The aquifer 2 has input of 521 gallons, and output of 500 gallons, thus it has 21 gallons of water plus on what it losses. Aquifer 3 has input of 200 gallons, and output of 300 gallons, thus it losses 100 gallons. The Aquifer 2 will be in a good condition, and if the trend continues, and if it supplies a river with water, the river will experience higher flow. The aquifers 1 and 3 though, will face a big problem, as they lose water. If they supply rivers, then the rivers will experience drop in their water levels as the water will gradually decrease in the aquifers. These two aquifers, if the trend continues, will become dry in a relatively short space of time.
