    Oil spill is the contamination of marine bodies by petroleum products such as gasoline and diesel. Oil spills cast a film on the surface of water preventing oxygen from penetrating the surface.

    For many sea life, these substance are toxic and even a small quantity can be deadly especially to small/juvenile fishes, plants, and shellfishes which live in shallow water. While oil spills usually occur in deep water, when it happens in shallow waters, the slightest exposure to shellfish is enough to kill them.
