Three lakes in Africa - - Lake Malawi, Lake Tanganyika, and Lake Victoria - - each contain a wide variety of cichlid fish with diverse, specialized adaptations. Each lake's "species flock" is thought to have derived independently from a single progenitor, and subsequently diversified into hundreds of unique species. If this hypothesis is correct, what would you expect the tree to look like for the East African cichlids?

    The East African cichilds are founded in discrete lacustrine environment, their features are greatly influenced by geology, there are almost 2000 species of the African Cichlids in Lake Malawi, Lake Tanganyika and Lake Victoria.
