According to the plate theory of hot spots, how do volcanic island chains form?

A. New ocean crust is being made faster than old ocean crust is destroyed.

B. Oceanic plates are being subducted faster than they are being formed.

C. Thin plates of lithosphere move around on the asthenosphere due to changes in density.

D. All volcanoes actually form at plate boundaries, not in the middle of plates.

    The only one that makes sense to me is D. All volcanoes actually form at plate boundaries, not in the middle of plates. But then again they can form in the middle if plates called a Hotspot.
