    increased trade

    Explanation:

During the 1300's, the Nordic countries gradually became more continental. There was one major reason behind this process, that being the increased trade.

During this period, Europe and Asia became much more connected, and the trade was flourishing, bringing in lot of profit with it. While the Nordic countries didn't engaged in trade with Asia on a large scale, but mostly with the other European nations that were than trading those goods with Asia, they had to start offering quality and attractive goods in order to have their share from it.

This resulted in the people of these countries to become much more sedentary, and much less nomadic sea dwellers from what they were actually famous for. The people in this part of Europe started to engage into specific fields in which they were good at, and started to produce their own goods that were highly demanded on the market, so the population was becoming more concentrated and almost exclusively on the continent, not on the sea.
