Due to a reduction on a number of things like vision, depth and distance perception, judgment, and reaction time.

Under the influence of alcohol or substance abuse, your vision and depth perception will be affected. You will find it hard to judge the distance between objects and less able to determine how far you are from other objects and vehicles on the side of the road. This will result in fatal crashes and lead to deaths.
