In the 1960's. Harry Hess developed his now famous and accepted theory of seafloor spreading.

Hess proposed that hot, less dense material in the mantle is forced upward to the surface at a mid ocean ridge. It brings heat and chemicals that support exotic life-forms in deep ocean water.

    The correct answer is option

    - Younger rocks are closer to mid-ocean ridges

    Explanation:

Hess was sure the continents are shifting, and the expansion of the seafloor was one of the things he thought caused their movement. Hess tried to find some evidence about this to support his hypothesis, and he actually found it in the sea. It turned out to be the youngest rock on the mid-ocean ridge, and as the distance from the mid-ocean ridge rises, the rocks get older and older.
