A tsunami is a giant wave caused by an earthquake in or near the ocean. But for a tsunami to happen the conditions have to be right. Such conditions include that the plates are on top of each other, along that it has to be in the ocean. When the plates snap back all the water is sent outwards in a ripple effect. These are the tsunamis.
