The process that is responsible for surface mountains, oceanic trenches, and other large-scale features on earth's surface is the continental drift. The term continental drift describes the process of moving of the tectonic plates. The plates are slowly moving-literally drifting around the surface of our planet. These motions have created the surface mountains large-scale features across the Earth.
