    Carbon dating is the type of dating that the scientist would attempt to perform for determining the age of the rock ... It is also referred to as Radiocarbon dating or Carbon-14 dating. In the year 1940 the Carbon dating was first discovered by Willard Libby and from then onwards this has become the standard method for the scientists in case of determining archeological finds containing organic materials. Willard Libby was awarded Nobel Prize for this great work in the tear 1960.
