How do convergent evolution and parallel evolution compare? Give an example of each.

    Parallel evolution -

    Its occurs when two species share a common ancestor and evolve a similar trait independent of each other.

    Example -

    Possums/Australian marsupial mammals are Parallel Evolution. They evolved the marsupial traits independently, but nonetheless share a common ancestor.

    Convergent evolution

    It occurs when two species without any close common ancestor and evolve a similar trait independent of each other.

    Examples -

    For instance, birds and bats have very different ancestors indeed. Bats are mammals and bird are not, but both have evolve wings with the capacity for flight.
