    - The United States doubled its size

    Explanation:

After the United States went into war with Great Britain and managed to gain independence, the country experienced several major things., some of which good for it, some that caused lot of damage.

The major thing that happened relatively soon after the independence was that the United States managed to approximately double its size.

Once the Spanish were kicked out of Mexico, Mexico was left very vulnerable, as it didn't had the Spanish military support, nor it was well organized. The United States used this, engaged in war with Mexico, and conquered enormous amount of land from it, resulting in pretty much doubling its size.

The United States managed to gain what is now the Southwestern, Western, and part of the Midwest. It is easy to see in this parts of the United States that once they were part of Mexico and under Spanish influence, as there is very big number of people from Spanish and Mexican origin, and they still speak their language and practice their culture.
