    Sugarcane was the first plantation crop that Europeans grew on the plains of northeast Brazil. During that period, sugar was in huge demand in Europe and there was a constant shortage of supply. Brazil became the worlds largest sugar producer. It did impact its economy positively. Sugarcane was the crop that needed to be cut in the fields and then processed in large mills to make sugar for exporting throughout the world. The climate of Brazil was very suitable for the production of sugarcane. Brazil used sugarcane to become a very successful colony.
