    Explanation:

    In Revolutionary War, William Jasper, an eminent American soldier was the sergeant in II South Carolina Regiment. In 1776, on 28th June, he made himself authoritative in the defense of Fort Sullivan which was before called Fort Moultrie.

    In the Sullivan's Island battle, the flagstaff was shot by a shell from the British warship. The Carolina flag of south was recovered by Jasper and he lifted it on a staff temporarily and up to a new staff was installed, he held it under the fire. To recognize Jasper's bravery, Governor John Rutledge awarded his sword to him.
