The French colonized Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam in Southeast Asia. The countries had spoken French during and after the colonization period, however they stopped speaking it for a while until recently, since there has been a revival. This is to a larger extent in Cambodia and Laos and a little less in Vietnam. Vietnam during the colonization period experienced a sort of different relationship with the French language, as only the elites spoke French and people who occupied jobs which were seen as less professional, did not speak French.
