    you are 1535.35 meter from the ship

    Explanation:

    given data

    time = 4.47 s

    temperature = 20.1°C

    to find out

    how many meters are you from the ship

    solution

    we know that distance formula

    distance = speed * time ... 1

    and

    here we know the formula of speed of sound at any temperature is

    Speed of sound = (331.3 + 0.606 * T) m/s

    here T is temperature

    so speed will be

    Speed = 331.3 + 0.606 * 20.1

    speed = 343.48 m/s

    so from equation 1

    distance = 343.48 * 4.47

    distance = 1535.35

    so you are 1535.35 meter from the ship
