Why do so many of Earth's volcanoes occur along plate boundaries

The plates slide along and against each other which causes earthquakes and is why california is about to fall off the US. Tectonic plates also push against each other to create mountains and volcanoes, the lava is more accessible in that case and it has an outlet to erupt.
