Why do geologists study plate tectonics?

Plate tectonics are important to geoloigists because they explain how the continents make up the earths crust.

Geologists study the movement of plate tectonics because it gives insight on how the Earth's surface behaves. The plates are constantly in movement, however this movement is very slow.
