    Special Survival Plan, also known as SSP, was first initiated in 1981 for population management and conversation of selected species of wildlife. This plan consists of cooperative, coordinated breeding programs for captive endangered species throughout the world.

    Special Survival Plans are however not a substitute for preserving animals in nature, but these are the strategies which creates healthy and self sustaining captive population which can be introduced in a safe habitat
