    A simple stain is used to show that bacteria is present and what they look like opposed to other matter. a differential stain is used to separate organisms into groups.

    A simple stain is (one dye) used to show that bacteria are present and what they look like as opposed to other matter and the background. A differential stain (uses two dyes) is used to seperate organisms into groups.
