One or both of the parents may have a recessive gene for short height. For example: T=dominant gene for tall height and t=recessive gene for short height. Father: TT

    Mother: Tt

If you do a Punnett square, you can determine that there is a low (<25%) possibility that the offspring will be short

    Father: Tt

    Mother: Tt

If you do a Punnett square, you can determine that there is a 25% or higher possibility that the offspring will be short since one of the alleles will be tt, making the offspring short.
