When the population is going to increase, the demand of resources like cars, houses, etc is going to increase as well. A lot of trees are going to be cut down to build houses for people. When there’s more transportation materials like cars, the carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases are going to increase as well, causing global warming.

On the positive side, when population increases it can have a beneficial affect on urban areas too. For one thing cities usually have more of a concentration of cultural events than in the country. Also, major cities are trying to reduce greenhouse gases with more rapid transit with less environmental footprint like the electric subways and skytrains and double buses. Also, there is more attention being paid to provide housing for the street people so that for example in Vancouver BC there is starting to be relatively cheap modular housing being built for the homeless.
