A student is taking an animal science and an astronomy class. In animal sciences, she learns that panthers are called jaguars and pumas in different parts of the world, but they are all the same cat. She makes an analogy, or comparison, to something she learned in her astronomy class. She says that a certain space object is like a panther because it is the same object but has different names depending on where it is. What space object is she thinking of?

    A student s ays that a certain space object is like a panther because it is the same object but has different names depending on where it is. The space object that she thought of is an asteroid. (1) Asteroid is a big rock in space that orbits around the sun. (2) Meteoroid is a smaller rock that also orbits around the sun. (3) Meteor is a meteoroid that entered the Earth's atmosphere. Sometimes referred as shooting star. (4) Meteorite, it is a meteoroid that lands on the Earth's surface.
