    Explanation:

    Radon is a naturally occurring gas found in minute quantities. It was one of the intermediate products of radioactive decay of uranium and thorium. Radon is very dense gas therefore it can easily get accumulated inside buildings, specially in areas like basement. It can get into a building in the following ways:

    1) rocks and soils under the building - specially near uranium and thorium mines, rocks and soil in the area can have high concentration of radon gas, which may leak into the house.

    2) building materials used in construction - building materials may also carry radon gas into the house

    3) dissolved in the water supply - in areas near the mines, radon may get dissolved into the water bodies and come into the house through supply.

    Radon is measured in Bq/m3 or pCi/L.

    Yes we do have radon gas problem in Mississippi. Houses in the northeastern part of Mississippi are at higher risk of radon.
