The mercator map is historically one of the worlds morst popular map projections. Describe this projection. Why was it created, and what kind of distortion can you see

    Mercator map projection, reason for its creation and kind of distortion that we can see are as follows:

    Mercator map was drawn by Geradus Mercator primarily for navigational purposes. This map was subjected to a lot of distortion as the map projected some countries as larger than continents, more than the actual size, along with elongating some countries too.

    Actually the countries were much smaller than what it was projected. For example, Canada was projected to be larger than Africa but actually it is more smaller in reality. It was done to project the spherical earth. Although there are many ways to project the same, the Mercator map was the standardized one.
