    The statement is false.

The fertility rates in the more developed countries are constantly going down. The main reason seem to be that the people decide to pursue careers first. They get married later, and postpone having children, so usually end up with having one or two children. The mortality rates are also very low. The main reasons behind this is that the quality of life is on a high level, as well as the medicine being available and of high quality, so the people on average have a relatively long life. This causes an aging of the population, which has already started to make economic problems, and that will just become more and more serious in the future.
