Why is so much of Russia north of the Arctic Circle so sparsely populated?

    It is very very cold and the night comes faster

    The temerature and terrain of the Artic Circle it is too difficult to build homes or other important buildings. It is also too hard to grow or obtain cattle and otger animals. Therefore making it not beneficial at all to live in the Artic Circle.
