As a response for government sanctioned murders and human rights violations in Yugoslavia has been the rise of nationalistic movements as a defense mechanism and also as a separatist movements that were aiming to get their respective countries out of Yugoslavia. These movements have existed since the beginning of Yugoslavia but their members have been systematically eliminated, but after Tito's death the atmosphere changes and it is these movements that take over and contribute to the fall of Yugoslavia and forming of multiple countries in the Balkan Peninsula.
