By definition, geothermal power is harnessed from steam produced from reservoirs of hot water found below the Earth’s surface which can be used to produce electricity. They are collected and rotated in turbines that activate generators that eventually distribute electricity to different areas.
Geysers can be a source of geothermal power but they generally involve a high risk of eruptions or explosions. They periodically eject hot water and steam and they also have the capacity to blast thousands of gallons of boiling hot water into the air. These characteristics make them unstable and no technology has been developed to harness its power for geothermal energy.
