An earthquake happens near a city with a seismograph station. The earthquake is recorded and calculated to have a magnitude of 4.2. What magnitude will a city 20 miles away record and calculate?

    The station located 20 miles away should also calculate the same magnitude of 4.2.

    The earthquake calculation is (somewhat) independent of distance to the monitoring station.

    In reality there are bound to be minor differences between stations.
