As erosion occurs, it takes particles of land with it. Especially farmlands, it takes crops with it Thus, erosion decreases the altitude of land.

The erosion process leads to the top layer (usually of dirt) to be rubbed away layer by layer, misshaping the ground and creating different levels of earth. This is way the ground tends to be very uneven.
