    The transparency allows to enter some light/heat from the surface.

    Explanation:

    The transparency of a body water can allow to penetrate the heat and the light of the sun but it will depends in which hemisphere are you. Since the Earth has an inclination and also spin around the sun, these 2 factors will allow to pass or not a lot of sun.

    So if the Earth is close to the sun, that is in summer, the heat and the light will be stronger than in winter, so they can reach lower meters to the bottom of the water body.

    If the Earth is in winter, that is far away from the sun, so that means that just some heat and light can reach the bottom.
