Coastal Plains

Coastal plains are any lowland regions bordering the sea or ocean, sloping gently seaward. Some are formed as a result of the accumulation of material in the form of an alluvium or deltaic plain. Coastal plains are low lying and not many meters above sea level.

Interior Plain

An interior plain is a region of flat land not located near the coast but in the middle of a continental landmass. The North American Continent is home to one such region. This area was formed by the collision of continental cratons over time.

Plateau

A plateau is a highland region with a relatively uniform summit level bounded by slopes falling steeply away. Plateaus can be formed by denudation of highland areas or the uplift of large regions by tectonic activity. Examples of plateaus include the Deccan of India and the Great Basin off Colorado and Utah.
