How is the region known as the "New York tri-state region" different from the region known as "the Muslim world?"

It is a much larger area, covering all of North Africa and the Middle East, from Morocco to Pakistan, but in which its demographic component is much more homogeneous: populations of ethnic origin mostly Arab, Berber or Persian, with Arabic languages in their vast majority, that profess the same religion: Islamism (although within this there are two currents, the Sunnies and the Shiites).
