The equinox is the beginning and ending of sunlight in the north and south poles. On the Spring Equinox, the sun rises for the first time in the North Pole and the sun sets for the last time in the South Pole, marking the beginning of the six months of darkness for the South Pole and six months of daylight in the North Pole. The exact opposite is true for the Fall Equinox. The sun sets for the last time in the North Pole beginning it's six months of darkness and rises for the first time in the South Pole beginning it's six months of daylight.
