Amino acids are considered the building blocks of proteins. Amino acids are highly important biological organic compounds. The main elements that are present in amino acids are carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and hydrogen. There are approximately 20 types of amino acids present in the food we take as well as in our body. These amino acids join to form large molecules of protein. One of the building blocks of protein is known as amino acid tryptophan. There are approximately about 500 amino acids that have been classified in different ways.
