What were the sides of the debate over this event over the louisiana

    One side said Jefferson, the president at the time, had no right to the Louisiana Purchase because it wasn't in the Constitution. These people believed in strict construction, the strict interpretation of the Constitution. Thomas Jefferson actually believed in this policy but he believed it was best for the country, which leads us to the other side. These people agreed to the purchase because it doubled the US and would increase the size and power of the US.
