You could challenge the premise of the question - what exactly is the crisis? It is easier to argue that humanity has actually avoided resource crises due to its continued and proven capacity for innovation. For instance, agricultural productivity expanded tremendously in the twentieth century. Whereas the majority of workers in Western societies were employed in agriculture in 1900, by 2000 that proportion was under 5%. Improved cultivation methods, the mechanization of farm implements, the tailoring of crops to specific soil types, crop rotation, improved irrigation, and the development of genetically modified crops selected for their productivity and resistance to pests have all enabled the output per person per acre to expand tremendously and support the massive global population growth seen over the past century.
